Transformers Animated Voyager Class Optimus Prime (Takaratomy)

This week we have the voyager class Optimus Prime from Transformers Animated. The vehicle mode is an earth look fire truck. Similar to most of the previous Prime design, the figure only comprises of the front cab. As you can see, the Takaratomy version is well coated with glossy paint on the red and parts of the blue portions giving it a metallic feel.

Despite not having the trailer, the rear design is not without any details. It comes with a semi-trailer that has a giant extinguisher mounted on the top. The extinguisher rotates 360 and is actually a water gun that squirts water if loaded.  

From the front, the V-shape windscreen and the emergency lights on the root gives the cab a futuristic look even though it is suppose to be a more conservative earth mode.Within the windscreen, there are lots of details in the form of  transparent blue circuitry which is really a nice touch.  

The rear portion is not as well designed though. The loosely fitted semi-trailer with the exposed feet gives the rear portion a patch up look in an attempt to give it a more complete fire truck look.  

The detachable semi-trailer can be transformed into a giant ion axe. The giant extinguisher can also be dismount to become a cannon.

Front cab with the semi-trailer remove looks better.

Transforming to robot mode is not difficult. It is pretty straight forward without the need to refer to the instructions. The figure also comes with some cool auto-morph feature which rotates the rear portion to become the lower limbs of Prime.

When Optimus Prime crashed to Earth with the rest of the Autobots, he didn't really know what it meant to be a hero. He spent most of his time in space dreaming of glory, but it wasn't until he was first faced with the terrible decisions that inevitably come with leadership that he finally understood. He became a true hero - a being who does what he does not for the glory and fame, but because no one else can do it.
