Universe Tread Bolt (Part 1)

This week review item is the Universe Tread Bolt. As you know, this mold is a repaint of Classics 1.0 Jetfire which is design based on the U.S F-14 Tomcat.

Alternate plane mode:

The color scheme of Tread Bolt is mainly blue with yellow paint apps for deco, brown and black for some small details/gimmicks. A search from the internet mentions that the repaint scheme is actually inspired by the U.S Navy Blue Angel planes.

Tread Bolt come as a voyager class figure which I always believe is a good size for a fighter jet. It is also a good size to pack gimmicks and details with.

Details:

Despite using the F-14 Tomcat as a basis of design, there are notable differences to the actually plane. The most notable change is the remodeled nosecone which is squarish instead of cone shape. Other changes include the thrusters, the extra twin turrets on the side and the 'exposed' robot arms.

From the side view, the shape of the jet nose looks a little weird. The robot arms are also exposed with no effort to conceal even for the grey hands.

The jet thrusters from the back looks good along with the foldable tail wings.

Gimmicks & accessories:

Tread Bolt's wings are designed exactly like the F-14 Tomcat 'swing' wings. They can be open up to fixed forward sweep mode or fixed after sweep mode as seen above and the earlier pictures.

Other nice features include the clear brass red tinted cockpit, the retractable landing gear as well as the twin blaster at the side of the cockpit.

On the back of the plane, you can find yellow paint apps that looks to enhance the contours of the plane perimeter. You can also find silver Autobot logo paint apps as well as two "Air Defense" labels at the back of the cockpit.

Armor up:

Like the Original Jetfire design, Tread Bolt comes with lots of accessories to play with; 2 blasters, 2 missile launchers and a jet booster.

Look at how much fire power Tread Bolt had when he is fully armored.

Tread Bolt looks much more bulky in armored mode. I do find the jet boosters a little too big from the side.

There is a pair of spring loaded cannon that flip out when the back of the booster is being slide backwards.

Transformation:

Other than the transformation of his cockpit to chest, Tread bolt's transformation is pretty straight forward.

Overall:

From the length of this review, you would have guess that Tread Bolt in the alternate plane mode has so much to offer in terms of playability. I especially like the gimmicks and accessories that comes with it e.g. the Tomcat wings and jet booster. If you like F-14 Tomcat or planes mode Transformers characters, I would highly recommend this.

Next week will see Tread Bolt in Robot mode
