Cybertron / Galaxy Force Dreadrock (Part 1)

http://toyspileup.blogspot.sg/2014/05/hasbro-cybertron-ultra-class-jetfire.html

Review item this week is Jetfire from Cybertron series. Also named Dreadrock in the similar Japanese version of the series Galaxy Force.

Plane mode:

Jetfire is an ultra class figure and his alternate plane design comes from the Antonov An-225 airlift cargo aircraft. There are quite a bit of details added to enhance the original plain outlook to make him more futuristic.

Despite lacking the firepower in the original design, we can see that there is a clear intention to blend him towards a more military warplane. His main body is colored mainly in shades of green; light green on the fuselage and dark green on the wings. There are also silver paint apps across the body noticeably on the top of the wings as well as red and black paint apps on the turbo engines.

From the side.

From the rear. The clear red laser guns looks out of place. Not sure why Hasbro did not bother to hide it in plane mode.

Details:

Being a ultra class figure makes him an easy platform to expand his arsenal. His wingspan is really wide close to 300mm from edge to edge. The cockpit is well decorated with varies paint apps enhancing the many panel details on him.

Left: On the back of the cockpit is a molded Autobot logo with red paint apps. Yes. It is molded.
Right: An example of the many fine panel cut lines throughout this monster.

On each side of the wings, there are a pair of turbo engines followed by a missile launcher. The engines are in molded grey with black and red paint apps.

A look at the bottom of the plane, you can find 2 sets of rollers under the body. Glad to see the rollers following the original Antonov An-225 design as it doesn't make sense to have retractable landing gear for this huge and heavy plane.

The angled tail wings again comes from the original design. The engine on each side is added though not in the original plane design. Notice that there are a big grey hinge in between the body and the tail.

Yes. The tail can be flipped up through that joint. Looks like a twin laser cannon tower on the top of the plane.

Who says Jetfire lacks firepower?

Force Ignition Gimmicks:

All cybertron figures comes with a cyber key gimmick which activates some mechanism when the cyber key is inserted into the key hole. In my case, I noticed the key for Jetfire is extremely difficult to insert let alone activate it. Probably some QC issues. Also on the tail is a battery compartment that powers up some light and sound gimmicks.

The result of force ignition is a pop up cannon platform and an extended red laser beam. Not the best gimmick I would say. For an ultra class figure, Hasbro should come up with better gimmicks. There are some sound and light gimmicks which i will not cover in this review.

Transformation:

Jetfire is easy to transform. The cargo area on the fuselage opens up to form the legs which i feel is something unique. The rest is pretty straight forward. The cockpit and tail bending towards each other to form the body and the outer engines forming the arms.

Overall:

Hasbro made a good choice to have Jetfire as a ultra class figure in bringing him closer to the huge looking Antonov An-225 plane. The enormous amount of attention to milltarise the plain looking cargo plane into a futuristic warplane cannot be ignored too. The one thing needs much improvement is the force ignition gimmick which is indeed disappointing in my opinion given that being one can pack so much in the huge plane.

Next week will see Jetfire in robot mode.
