This week will continue with the review of Backstop in Robot mode.
Robot Mode:
Backstop looks very weird in robot mode. Both his arms come in different design with the left arm looking like a giant 3 finger crawl. The legs are also indifferent with both feet facing the right direction. I felt it could have look better if both feet can be turned to face the front but the joint and some areas are obstructing the movement.
The back of Backstop has some details of the textured skin from his beast mode. You can also find the Hasbro trademark on his back.
Backstop's head is formed from the back of his rhino mode which in his robot mode seems hidden between his broad shoulders.
Front and back view.
Looks pretty short for a scout class figure.
The fine details on Backstop are impressive. Starting from the chest area, there are fine black details on the side as well as the textured rhino skin. On the middle of his chest, you can find a printed Autobot log. Besides that, you can also find a lot of panel marking though out the toy.
Details:
Backstop's head comes in red with features well define with black outlining.
From the side, you can see the difference between both limbs. The right formed from rhino head comes with his red horn and the right formed from the rhino rear comes with a 3 finger crawl.
The right arm comes with a human hand very well sculpt in my opinion but the left arm is a creature crawl
The legs design is a disaster. Both legs are formed by snapping both the fore and back beast legs together. Both are facing the towards the right and there is no way to rotate them forward. If Hasbro were to make both feet rotate to face the front, I think he will look a lot better.
Force Ignition Gimmick
Remember the cyber key on the back of the rhino head. Here, the rhino becomes the right arm in robot mode and you still can insert the key to activate the force ignition gimmick.
Upon activation the horn extends an extra inch but where is it facing? Side? Get serious Hasbro!
Articulation:
Like the beast mode, Backstop's articulation is really bad. Articulation is very minimum and even if there is a joint, the obstruction of a counter part restricts its movement. The right arm for example has his horn facing the right and there is no joint to rotate it to face front.

Overall:
All in all, displaying Backstop in rhino mode makes more sense given that his robot mode is ugly and the protruding horn on his right arms makes it very difficult to display any other robots beside him. Despite that, I am impressed by the amount of fine details on him in rhino mode. Somehow, I have a feeling that he is intentionally design to look good in rhino mode which explains the little effort given to his robot mode.
