This week is going to be the first masterpiece review in my blog. This is none other than MP-20 Wheeljack.
Vehicle mode:
Wheeljack in his vehicle mode is a Lancia Stratos Turbo 5 rally car sporting Alitalia livery. Despite being a 1976 release, the car design still possessed the X-factor at this modern age looking very sleek and stylish.
The color scheme of Wheeljack follows exactly as his G1 colors. The main body is in pure white followed by his trademark green and red patterns that starts from his bonnet to the roof and then all the way to the rear.
On Wheeljack's car body, you can see Hasbro's attempt to decorate him with numerous "sponsor" decals to make him look like a typical race car. The decals are all nicely applied and looks very sharp. To be honest, I am so glad that Hasbro is kind enough not to ask us to DYI the decals. The recently Takara release Primes toy series is a pain as stickers and their weapons are DIY.
Front and Back:
The front of the vehicle is packed with some of the best features of him. They includes the bonnet, the curved screens and also his unique front bumper. We will take a closer look at all these in the details section.
From the side, you can see that the car body is actually quite low and close to the ground. I also notice that the rear area looks a little longer compared to his G1 design.
Details:
A much closer look at the earlier mentioned bonnet and you can see the awesome air vent details and how well the colors are painted over leaving no paint patches in between each vents. Look further down and you can see the red colored rims and black tires which look too plastic especially for the tires. Hasbro should at least textured them to make it more realistic. Racing car? Smooth tires? Seems they don't match at all.
Moving further towards the rear is the very nicely painted vibrant red and green stripe patterns that runs down from the roof. I have to say that I am quite impressed with the paint apps standard this time round. On the right shows the rear of the vehicle that has 2 very distinct red rear-lights that again look unreal, surely Hasbro can afford to use some clear red tinted plastics for this.
On the roof of the vehicle is a small Autobot logo. The logo had a white stripe as a background and is the only one found on him. Another unique feature is the curved car screens. They are tinted dark and if you expect realistic life like car interiors within the screens, think again. There isn't as you can see. Only pieces of his robot parts. On the side of the vehicle are more decals and one of it is a set of numbers "539" which to my understanding indicates the unique running numbers of cars built at the point of release.
Wheeljack comes with a missile launcher that can be attached to the roof of his vehicle form. I'm not sure if this ever happens in the animated series but I don't find it pleasing at all.
